Our Story

Who are we?

Pull Paint Wear is founded and ran by us - Erica and Jonathan Stofenmacher, a husband and wife team living and creating in LA. We believe art is for everyone, because every individual is a work of art. Pull Paint Wear takes art off the wall and places it on your body.

How do we do it?

Each pattern is made form "paint pulling" - a technique developed by Jonathan using only oil paints. This gives our garments a visceral texture that is unattainable through digital media. We don't use computers during the pattern creation stage of our process.

After each work of art is complete, Erica converts the paintings into a digital file and places the truly unique pull patterns onto comfortable basics for you to wear.  Since we don't do standard repeat patterns, our garments retain the feeling of a painting. There's a unity within each dynamic pull pattern; a cohesion in the chaos, and new discoveries each time you look at them. The "irregularities" of each pull creates the illusion that the garment is painted on your body. We think it's pretty cool.

Each all-over-print, "full pull," garment is made to order, printed onto fabric, precision-cut and hand-sewn. Our "square pull" tees and sweatshirts are printed direct to garment (DTG), on demand.

Why do we do it?

Because sometimes minimalist neutrals don't tell our full story. When we mute our vibrant colors, depths, and textures we overlook our most interesting parts - the ones that make us art. We're committed to unique prints that reflect the colorful world inside us all.

And don't worry, if your walls feel naked, limited edition pull pattern prints and one-of-a-kind oil paintings are framed and available for purchase.
